PHASE 1 REPORTING

The final outcome of our project research and community engagement work is the Larimer Vision-to-Action Plan Phase 1 Report. The Report is available for community review at this link (note that it’s a rather large document and may take a bit of time to download).

COMMUNITY MEETINGS

Community-wide meetings were held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 and Tuesday, June 26, 2012 as a part of our Phase 1 project work. In the community planning sessions during the June 26 meeting, 155 attendees set community-determined Guiding Principles that will serve as the cornerstones of the work in developing the Larimer Vision to Action Plan. Outcomes are available as follows:

PLANNING GROUPS

During phase 1, five Planning Groups were formed to develop community priorities on five key focus areas for the Choice Neighborhoods application:

>> FIRST MEETINGS

The 5 planning groups held their first meetings during the weeks of 4.2.12 and 4.9.12. Here are the meeting outcomes:

The Employment & Economic Development Planning Group met Tuesday, 4.3.12 at the ECCO Center. The 16 participants reviewed the 2008 Larimer Community Plan and identified what had changed about community challenges and community assetsidentified key community needs regarding employment and economic development, and listed the assets they can offer to the planning process. Participants scheduled the next Employment & Economic Development Planning Group meeting for Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 6:00pm at the ECCO Center (Larimer Avenue & East Liberty Blvd.).

The Housing Planning Group met Tuesday, 4.4.12 at the Kingsley Association. The 21 participants reviewed the 2008 Larimer Community Plan and identified what had changed about community challenges and community assets, identified key community needsregarding housing, and listed the assets that participants can offer to the planning process. Participants scheduled the next Housing Planning Group meeting for Wednesday, May 2, 2012, 6:00pm at the Kingsley Association (6435 Frankstown Avenue).

The Community Engagement, Health & Safety Programs Planning Group met Monday, 4.9.12 at the Kingsley Association. The 11 participants reviewed the 2008 Larimer Community Plan and identified what had changed about community challengesand community assets, identified key community needs regarding community engagement, health & safety, and listed the assets that participants can offer to the planning process. Participants scheduled the next Community Engagement, Health & Safety Programs Planning Group meeting for Monday, April 30, 2012, 6:00pm at the Kingsley Association (6435 Frankstown Avenue).

The Educational Assets & Programs Planning Group met Tuesday, 4.10.12 at the Kingsley Association. The 4 participants reviewed the 2008 Larimer Community Plan and identified what had changed about community challenges and community assets, identified key community needs regarding education, and listed the assets that participants can offer to the planning process. Participants scheduled the next Education Planning Group meeting for Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 6:00pm at the Kingsley Association (6435 Frankstown Avenue).

The Recreational& Physical Assets Planning Group met Tuesday, 4.10.12 at the Kingsley Association. The 10 participants reviewed the 2008 Larimer Community Plan and identified what had changed about community challenges and community assets, identified key community needs regarding physical assets, and listed the assets that participants can offer to the planning process. Participants scheduled the next Physical Assets Planning Group meeting for Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 6:00pm at the Kingsley Association (6435 Frankstown Avenue).

The Vision to Action Plan master planning team met for a presentation and discussion with residents of East Liberty Gardens on Monday, May 7, 2012. 15 attendees heard an overview of the Vision to Action Plan project and discussed the important role that East Liberty Gardens, its residents, and board will play in the planning for the Larimer Avenue Corridor and the development of the Larimer Vision to Action Plan. The 9 participants were updated on activities since their first meeting by project consultant Pat Clark. Initial plans for the project outreach and survey were reviewed, and participants provided their input onsurvey topics and questions, outreach plans and resources, and potential contacts and partners for community needs regarding community engagement, health and safety that had been identified during their first Planning Group meeting. Participants scheduled the next Community Engagement, Health & Safety Planning Group meeting for Monday, June 4, 2012, 6:00pm at the Kingsley Association (6435 Frankstown Avenue).

The Community Engagement, Health & Safety Programs Planning Group met Monday, 6.4.12 at the Kingsley Association. The 7 participants were updated on activities since their second meeting by project consultant Pat Clark.

The Education Programs Planning Group met Tuesday, 6.5.12 at the Kingsley Association. The participants were updated on activities since their second meeting by project lead David Weber of the Housing Authority of Pittsburgh.

The Physical and Recreation Assets Planning Group met Tuesday, 6.5.12 at the Kingsley Association. The participants were updated on activities since their second meeting by project consultant Stefani Danes.

The Employment and Economic Development Planning Group met Tuesday, 6.5.12 at the EECO. The participants were updated on activities since their second meeting by Project Planning Team member Shad Henderson.

The Housing Planning Group met Wednesday, 6.6.12 at the Kingsley Association. The participants were updated on activities since their second meeting by project consultants Stefani Danes and Pat Clark.

NEIGHBORHOOD KNOWLEDGE GROUP MEETINGS

The first Neighborhood Knowledge Group meeting took place on Wednesday, 04.18.12 at 6:00pm at Kingsley. View a copy of our meeting agenda at this link and a copy of our presentation at this link. Our second Neighborhood Knowledge Group session was held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 6:00pm at the Kingsley Center, and 15 attendees reviewed in more detail the Choice Neighborhoods program, as well as previous Choice Neighborhoods grant winners and how they did it. Our 3rd Neighborhood Knowledge Study Group session was held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 and attendees reviewed in detail the outcomes of each of the Planning Group sessions held to date. The 4th Neighborhood Knowledge session was held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 and invited guests Chris Koch of GTECH and Fred Brown of Kingsley discussed best practices from June’s Reclaiming Vacant Properties Conference.
